 Avant le debriefing, un petit briefing sur Chypre:

Parti sur un coup de tête afin de fuir le rude climat ardennais, on ne savait pas vraiment à quoi s’attendre pour ce TOC ( Tour of Cyprus) 2010. On est donc parti dans l’inconnu et on revient super enthousiasmé. Nous n’avons jamais été en stage à Majorque mais Chypre offre vraiment tous les atouts pour un stage parfait, soleil avec léger vent, cols d’une beauté à vous couper le souffle, peu de voitures et une population locale d’une rare amabilité.
Ce fut une aventure et une épopée qui a certainement sa place à côté de la transalp ou de la transaustria.
L’organisation a été top du début à la fin ( depuis l’accueil personnalisé à l’aéroport jusqu’au dernier jour, aucune faille n’est à déceler pour cette première organisation montée par 2 amoureux du vélo, un ancien coureur pro suisse ( équipe … festina, no comments) et le président du plus gros club de cyclo de Chypre qui ont investi de leurs deniers personnels pour promouvoir Chypre et le cyclisme à Chypre.
 Sur une semaine nous avons parcouru plus de 520 km ( 7.491 M de dénivelé) dont 415 KM et 6.800 M de dénivelé pour les 4 jours du Tour de Chypre. Le déroulement de chaque étape nous convenait également à merveille, nous qui sortons d’un long entrainement hivernal : chaque jour une première partie neutralisée, un ravito et ensuite une partie chronométrée de +- 30 à 35 km (les 3 premiers jours dans des cols, le dernier jour sur le plat) soit au max 1h45 d’effort à bloc et au minimum 1 H puis 2ème ravito et dernière partie neutralisée pour relâcher les jambes. Le tout encadré par 2 voitures de police, 6 motards de cette même police, une dizaine de motards marshals en Harley, 1 voiture directeur de course, 1 voiture médicale et 1 voiture mécano sans oublier le camion balai ( dont nous n’avons pas fait connaissance).

La première édition du Tour de Chypre a rassemblé un peloton très international séduit par les atouts d’un pays bien décidé à charmer les cyclistes de tous bords
 Un ciel d’un étincelant bleu azur, une plage de sable fin, une Méditerranée dont les vagues s’écrasent contre les rochers tout proches dans une apaisante mélodie et un soleil qui colore d’un rouge vif les joues de touristes trop heureux d’être là : le tableau pourrait laisser penser à un spot publicitaire pour l’une des promotions last minute d’un Tour Operator. Mais c’est pourtant bien de sport qu’il s’agit et de cyclisme en particulier.
Chypre possè de de nombreux atouts pour devenir une destination prisée par les cyclistes.

Collecting More Than Just a Suntan in Cyprus – Christine Vardaros wraps up her report from the Tour of Cyprus. If you missed Part One, check it out!
 I am checking in from the Stoumont region of The Ardennes – the hilly part of Belgium next to some of the famous Liege-Bastogne-Liege climbs. Jonas and I are spending the week with his family on their yearly Easter holiday.
Based on the success of this year’s flagship Tour, I expect it to be twice the size by next year. And considering the time of year it’s held, you can be certain I will again be there working on my suntan while whipping my body back into shape – bootcamp style.
As for the Tour, the last day of the four-day co-ed stage race was the most fun. With only 1.434 seconds separating the top two guys on the general classification, there was no champagne to be had during the race.

The 6th edition of "Tour of Cyprus 2010" to be held on March 25th through 28th has a few spots left in both their competitive and cylco-tourist tours. The ToC Stage Race offers amateurs the unique opportunity to race with the pros. It is also an important fundraiser for charities such as "Make a Wish" Foundation.

In the crowd of riders were many famous faces from their respective lands, including the Lebanese Time Trial champion Zaher El Hage and the strongest Israeli female Yarden Avidani.
 While most of the Belgian cyclocross racers are spending part of their first post-season month skiing or on some warm sunny beach sipping umbrella drinks by the seaside to unwind, I chose to spend mine suffering on the bike – but at least it’s under sunny skies with the most magnificent views imaginable.
I am checking in from sunny Cyprus, not quite from the side of a pool but from the road stage race Tour of Cyprus – a co-ed, four day mountainous stage race. The teams and individual riders came from places like Germany, Lebanon, Great Britain, The Netherlands, Poland, New Zealand, Greece, Cyprus and of course Belgium. There were four of us from Belgium, so we registered as Team Belgium, although I wore my Zannata-Champion System clothing.
Aside from the most beautiful roads and views, and of course the local people, support in the race and the food, the most exciting part of my trip thus far has to be the friendships I’ve made in such a short period of time. Off all the races I’ve done so far in my life, this is easily the most social one. Everyone is just so open and friendly.

Γιώργος Περδίκης παρευρέθηκε στην τελετή λήξης του 1ου Διεθνούς Ποδηλατικού Γύρου (Κυριακή 28 Μαρτίου) που οργάνωσε ο Όμιλος Ποδηλατοκίνησης με την υποστήριξη του Υπουργού Εμπορίου, Βιομηχανίας και Τουρισμού, του ΚΟΤ, του Κινήματος Οικολόγων Περιβαλλοντιστών κ.ο.κ.
 Ο κ. Περδίκης απένειμε τις τιμητικές διακρίσεις στους συμμετέχοντες μαζί με το Δήμαρχο Λάρνακας κ. Ανδρέα Μωυσέως και τον Υπουργό κ. Πασχαλίδη. Ιδιαίτερα τιμητική ήταν η συμμετοχή του Συνδέσμου Κατά της Οστεοπόρωσης και του Τμήματος Φυσιοθεραπείας του Ευρωπαϊκού Πανεπιστημίου.
